Centuries. Centuries of North Americans getting information about Government from a small group in the one – way media. They could cheer or smear a candidate and easily sway an election. An untruth would be corrected on the back page or broadcast end weeks later – weeks too late. Lawsuits? Years too late.
Internet then Social Media allowed for immediate first person rebuttal – finally.
Legacy Media could do something even worse though – ignore a candidate. Nobody, ever got elected to any substantial position should the cabal of printing press and Government broadcast license holders ignore them. That changed this year when they ignored Dr. Lewis.
Dr. Leslyn Lewis received 30% of votes during second round of balloting (the other 2 candidates received 35% and 34% each). If she had made it to the third round she may lead the Conservative Party of Canada – one of the two major Parties - as voters often "Lincoln" - vote against the front runner with a longer history.
A great showing – a historic showing considering she was almost ignored by Legacy Media.
According to True North: foreign, Vice-Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris was mentioned 500% more often than Dr. Lewis on the State Broadcaster.
Why the shun from the chosen few in Legacy Media? It could be that...well...does it matter? Not anymore.
What does matter wasn't around a few elections ago - she had a great social media presence and was covered extensively by other media. Example. Example. Example.
Legacy Media has every right to continue but it is time for the Federal Government to stop funding Newspapers, magazines and broadcasters in Canada (including CBC) with children's future earning (debt). They've had a centuries long run but are technologically and now proven to be practically obsolete. McLuhan's “Personal Electronic Communications” has firmly displaced the ancient oligarchy of power. That is “good news” for you. Specifically.
